Nutrients to Tackle Mom brain

4 Essential Nutrients to Tackle Mom Brain

Published on: August 25, 2025

I’ll be honest,  I used to think “mom brain” was just a cute excuse for forgetting why I walked into a room.

Then I actually became a mom.

And suddenly I was Googling, “Does your brain stop working after pregnancy?!” more times than I care to admit.

But here’s the thing no one tells you: mom brain is real — and it’s not just sleep deprivation or chaos. It’s physiological. There are actual, biological shifts happening in our brains during pregnancy, postpartum, and well beyond. And the good news? We can support it.

So if your brain feels foggy, slow, or scattered lately (especially if you’re pregnant, postpartum, or chasing toddlers while still healing), you’re not broken — and you’re definitely not alone.

So, what even is “cognitive support”?

Cognitive support just means helping your brain function — think focus, memory, mood, and mental energy. For moms, that’s more than a luxury. It’s a basic need.

During pregnancy and postpartum, our brains actually remodel themselves to help us bond with our babies and manage new responsibilities. But that transformation can leave us feeling like we’re constantly running on 1% battery — with 57 open tabs.

And just like our bodies need rest and nutrition to heal after birth, our brains need targeted nutrients to repair and thrive.

Let’s talk about Choline+ — The mom brain MVP

If you’ve never heard of choline before, you’re not alone — most of us weren’t taught how important it is. But choline is essential for brain health, especially during pregnancy and postpartum.

Needed’s Choline+, launched just this July, is one of the first formulas designed to meet the real needs of mothers — not the outdated, too-low (or non-existent!!) dosing that most prenatals stick to.

Needed’s Choline+ is like brain food in a capsule.
It’s designed to:

  • Support memory and focus for YOU
  • Support neural tube formation, brain development, and nervous system health in your growing baby.
  • Help with cognitive processing
  • Support breastmilk nutrient density

This isn’t just about preventing “mom brain” — it’s about giving your brain and your baby what they actually need to adapt and thrive.

But choline works best with backup. Here’s the full brain-support squad:

Prenatal Multi

Yes, even postpartum, you still need a high quality prenatal. Your brain is still recovering, and nutrient demands stay high for 6-12+ months after birth.

 Cognitive Support

This is one of those supplements you didn’t know you needed — and then wonder how you functioned without. It blends Alpha-GPC, Ashwagandha, Reishi & Lion’s Mane Mushroom and other powerful nutrients to support alertness, reaction time, and mental clarity.
It’s basically your pre-coffee focus — without the crash.

I use Needed’s Cognitive Support  on days when I need to be on — whether I’m with a doula client or trying to match socks for my toddler at 7am.

Note: Needed’s cognitive support is not recommended for pregnancy so save this amazing tool for your cognitive comeback once you are no longer pregnant.

🐟 Omega-3

You probably know omega-3s are good for baby’s brain — but they’re just as essential for your own. Needed’s Omega-3 contains 1000mg each of EPA and DHA, which support mood stability.

Bonus: It’s designed specifically to avoid unpleasant taste, smell, and fish burps. Praise be.

🙋‍♀️ Why this matters — especially for VBAC moms

If you’re like me and had a cesarean before planning your VBAC, you know the mental load is heavy. Recovery, decision-making, birth prep, trauma processing, future planning — it all adds up.

Supporting your brain through this process (and postpartum) isn’t just self-care. It’s smart.
You deserve to feel clear-headed and emotionally steady as you heal, prep, and show up for the life you’re rebuilding — and maybe even remember where you left your coffee cup. Use code VBAC at @needed to grab the brain support you didn’t know you needed (pun intended).
